Size Guide

Most furniture regret is a measuring problem, not a taste problem. Ten minutes with a tape measure prevents nearly all of it.

1. Measure the room, not the wall

Mark the sofa footprint on the floor with masking tape and live with it for a day. Leave 75 to 90 cm for a walkway, and 40 to 45 cm between the seat edge and a coffee table.

2. Measure the route in

The piece has to reach the room before it can sit in it. Measure the narrowest point of every doorway, corridor, stair turn and lift, including the diagonal of the door opening. Compare each figure with the packed dimensions on the product page. If a single number is tight, tell us before you order.

3. Match the seat to how you sit

  • Seat depth 55 to 60 cm: upright, easy to get out of, good for dining-adjacent living rooms.
  • Seat depth 60 to 70 cm: relaxed, room to curl up, better with a deep back cushion.
  • Seat height 42 to 46 cm: comfortable for most adults; lower reads more lounge, higher is kinder to knees.

4. Scale the piece to the wall

As a rule, a sofa looks settled at roughly two thirds of the length of the wall it sits against. Longer crowds the corners; shorter leaves the room looking unfinished.

5. Dining and beds

Allow 60 cm of table edge per person and 90 to 100 cm behind each chair. For a bed, allow at least 60 cm on the sides you get in and out from.
